Research Interest
Dr. Nordin has degrees in physics and kinesiology and academic training in biomechanics, physiology, neural engineering, and signal processing. His research focuses on understanding human neuromotor control of dynamic whole-body movements, with an emphasis on locomotion. As a doctoral student at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he was awarded the UNLV Foundation President’s Graduate Research Fellowship and Regents’ Graduate Scholar Award from the Nevada System of Higher Education. For his applications of multivariate statistical approaches in human biomechanics he received research awards from the Southwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine and New Balance Footwear. Dr. Nordin completed postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan where he developed novel electroencephalographic recording methods for improving signal quality in mobile conditions and signal processing approaches for cleaning non-invasive electrophysiological recordings. These innovations improved state of the art approaches for measuring electrical brain and muscle activities during locomotion, which led to discoveries of human supraspinal and neuromuscular gait control processes. For this work, he received the Brain Products 2020 Mobile Brain/Body Imaging Award. Since 2015, Dr. Nordin has published 12 first-author and 4 coauthored papers studying neuromotor control of discrete and rhythmic whole-body movements.
